Budgeting and grocery shopping is one of the best ways to trim down your monthly expenses and daily spending- but there are dozens of challenges out there- especially the advice that is ultimately unrealistic. Here is a list of budgeting and grocery shopping challenges and how you can make them realistic strategies to save on grocery shopping! Some articles seem too unreasonable to be applicable. More often than not, it comes down to unrealistic costs of groceries . For example, I cannot find 1 gallon of milk at my local Walmart for $1. And our Dollar Tree out in Montana doesn't have a grocery section- we do have a freezer section, but it is only 2-3 doors of frozen dinners. Healthy College Grocery List (Part 1) 
DORM ROOM
Many of you ladies want to make sure that you are still eating healthy while also enjoying the “free” unlimited food that the cafeterias have to offer. When pulling all nighters- which I highly advise against- and during Finals Week, a nice nap, break, snack will be nice once the dining halls have closed or when you don’t want to leave your dorm. Some close at a certain time every evening and some even on the weekends, and what better way to eat healthy on the weekends in the dorms than to eat your own food.

With limited storage within your mini-fridge, eating healthy on breaks and weekends can be a difficult challenge. I had a larger mini-fridge than some, yet my College roommate managed to fit her stuff in. However, I am unable to give you tips about mini-fridges that size. My now-husband (then-boyfriend) had a fridge that was somewhere in between the size of mine and that of my roommate’s. With that said and over with, here is a list of foods that are handy for the dorm and the mini-fridge!

  • Coconut Water
  • Fruit Juice
  • Soda
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Pasta
  • Oatmeal Packages
  • Canned Soups
  • Popcorn
  • Ramen
  • Cookies
  • Coffee and Teas
  • Sweetener
  • Cocoa
  • Flour (for mug cakes)
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Fruit & Veggies- Fresh and/or Frozen 
    (Try not to buy more than what you know what you’ll eat)
  • Cheese Sticks
  • Avocado Oil
  • Granola Bars
  • Cottage Cheese, Greek Yogurt in one tub or in singles cups
  • Fruit Cups and Apple Sauce
  • Nuts/Seeds
    • Walnuts
    • Sunflower Seeds
    • Almonds

  • Pancake Mix
  • Peanut Butter
  • Jelly
  • $1 Bread
